Go for Gold’s 2025 April Holiday Programme: Real-World Experience, Real Impact

Go for Gold’s April Holiday Programme continues to open doors for our Grade 12 learners, offering an inside look into the dynamic world of engineering and construction. This year’s programme was packed with meaningful engagements, thanks to the generous support of our industry partners: Converge Consulting Engineers, Amandla Construction, and Stefanutti Stocks.

From 31 March to 3 April, students visited active construction sites around Cape Town—from new school builds to major hospital upgrades and beachfront infrastructure projects. These visits are designed to provide practical insight, build professional confidence, and inspire our learners as they prepare for careers in the built environment.

Spotlight: Converge Consulting Engineers Site Visit

On 31 March, six of our Grade 12 students had the opportunity to job shadow at Converge Consulting Engineers. The day included site visits, supplier tours, and mentorship from industry professionals. Here’s what some of our students had to say:

🔹 Mohecia Williams
“The job shadowing experience at Converge Consulting was incredibly inspiring and gave me so much confidence. From the warm welcome to the insightful briefings, everything set a positive tone. Visiting a mall project powered by a massive battery system and a Bluetooth-enabled lighting company was fascinating! I loved seeing how technology is shaping construction. Our mentor Lance explained everything so well, and seeing Go for Gold’s influence in the industry reassured me that I’m on the right path. This experience deepened my passion for construction and its teamwork-driven environment.”

🔹 Oyama Njemla
“It was a fantastic and eye-opening experience. I was especially impressed by the use of 3D and architectural apps in the planning stages. Touring a high-voltage battery facility and learning about LED lighting was a real highlight. Visiting the construction site was my favourite part. The whole day confirmed how much I admire Converge Consulting and gave me hope for a future career with them.”

🔹 Samkele Gobane
“This was an exciting and motivational experience. I discovered that engineering goes way beyond just civil work. Seeing the mall construction site brought the reality of building to life for me. I also found the Bluetooth-controlled lighting technology amazing, and even the office work was engaging. Watching digital plans come to life gave me a new level of respect for this field. I’m so grateful to Go for Gold—this experience was truly game-changing.”

These reflections highlight just how powerful experiential learning can be. We are deeply grateful to Converge Consulting Engineers, Amandla Construction, and Stefanutti Stocks for helping our learners connect their classroom knowledge to real-world applications and future career possibilities.

With every site visit, Go for Gold is helping shape confident, inspired, and career-ready young professionals.
