First plastics manufacturing company sponsors Go for Gold student

For 22 years, Go for Gold has supported talented youth, empowering them on their academic and career development journeys to becoming technical graduates for the South African built environment.

As of 2021, Go for Gold was approached by Bowler Packaging in the Western Cape, who identified Go for Gold as a programme that aligns with their desire for tangible transformation and applauded our focus on STEM education. Once they understood the programme, Bowler Packaging became the first manufacturing company to sponsor a Grade 12 student in Phase 1 in 2021.

Bowler Packaging specializes in the manufacturing of packaging for the personal care, household, pharmaceutical and food and beverage markets.

Bowler Packaging’s sponsorship of R25 000 per annum per student provides deserving youth with year-long maths and science tuition classes every Saturday in order to help students achieve Bachelor Passes, thus qualifying them for tertiary studies; Leadership Development training that focusses on life skills training and instilling ethical leadership, goal setting, personal responsibility and accountability; two holiday programmes a year that comprise of interesting visits to Go for Gold partner companies.

Go for Gold is actively looking to recruit more companies to join the programme from both the construction and manufacturing sectors. The more partners Go for Gold has, the more deserving students can be recruited to join the programme.

With our current youth unemployment crisis, South Africa certainly needs programmes like Go for Gold education-to-employment to be duplicated in numerous technical industries and encourage youth to utilize this excellent skills development programme that makes youth employable.
