Go for Gold elected to make the most of a bad situation and put our young leaders to the test. As part of our Leadership Development training, we encourage students to be innovative, responsible, self-reliant and guide themselves and others to do the right thing in challenging times.
Usually at this time of the year during the first school holiday, our students would be enjoying a 3-day exciting Holiday Programme visiting our partner companies construction sites and receiving educational talks and career guidance by technical professionals. However, due to the viral threat, Go for Gold chose safety first and elected to postpone the planned site visits to a later date. However, Go for Gold realised we can have our students implement the Go for Gold Leadership Development approaches to the Covid19 pandemic, responsibly from their homes.
As the global pandemic worsens, Go for Gold Phase 1 Grade 12 students are now empowered as Go for Gold Health Ambassadors to share in the responsibility of motivating their family and friends to act responsibly during this critical time to avoid the spread of the Covid19 Novel Coronavirus.
The #G4GHealthAmbassador Campaign kicked off on 23 March 2020, the same day our South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa issued a televised broadcast that South Africa would undergo a nationwide lockdown starting at midnight of Thursday, 26 March 2020 until midnight on 16 April 2020 to prevent the spread of the virus.
Our Health Ambassadors responded quickly in sharing what they did personally to deal with the required “Social Distancing” request made by South African government and the Department of Health.
The campaign is scheduled to run for 7 days, with possible review. Go for Gold will be rewarding the winners of the most innovative and motivating approaches they present as future leaders of our country. We are extremely excited to see and hear their solutions.

We wish everyone well and to be safe during this trying time!
